Mobile chat tools have stolen the limelight of traditional social networks in the mobile internet age. A market research firm recently surveyed five populous countries around the world, drawing on the "Power list" of mobile chat tools around the world.
On-device, a mobile market research firm, conducted the survey, which surveyed 3,759 Android and iOS users in the US, Brazil, South Africa, Indonesia and China.
The survey found that, globally, WhatsApp has become the most influential mobile chat tool, ranked first in South Africa, Brazil and Indonesia, second only to Facebook-messenger in the United States, from global user coverage, WhatsApp has surpassed Facebook-messenger.
Of the five countries surveyed by the company, 44% said they used at least one whatsapp,facebook-messenger a week for 35%, China's micro-letters ranked third and 28% said they used them at least once a week.
In the Chinese market, micro-letter in the first place, the user coverage reached 93%,skype only ranked third.
The report notes that the BlackBerry BBM is playing a role in the mobile chat landscape, a few weeks after BBM launched Android and iOS clients, and BBM has become the fifth-ranked mobile chat tool in the five countries.
BBM is ranked third in South Africa and second in Indonesia. Both countries are said to have traditionally had a larger share of BlackBerry handsets.
The survey shows that China's micro-credit influence is climbing, is moving to outside China, 20% of Indonesian users and 18% of South African users, said at least once a week micro-letter.
It should be noted, however, that in mobile chat tools, East Asia has become the fastest growing region in the world, with the exception of China's micro-letters, South Korea's KakaoTalk, Japan's line, have a large number of users, and began to expand outside the country.
However, the market research firm, for some reason, did not investigate the two major mobile chat markets in Japan and South Korea. In addition, the research caliber of Twitter-like microblogging service providers, also included in mobile chat, different from the industry more commonly defined.
