Beijing Time March 20 news, according to foreign media reports, March 11 Japan's 9-magnitude earthquake and triggered a tsunami, Japan, a number of technology companies are still facing the long-term production of factories and workers shutdown dilemma, including Sony suffered the most serious losses. "Sony is still in trouble," Sony spokesman Chisato Kitsukawa said in a telephone call to the media in Saturday. He also said the company had shut down 8 production plants in Miyagi, Pengcheng and Fudao counties, and workers were conducting rigorous inspections of production equipment and plants. Sony's heavy losses in the downstream parts suppliers were also severely affected by the earthquake and tsunami, which led to the inability of the hundreds of parts supplied by Sony to produce TVs. The company's resumption of production was a thorny process. As the nuclear power plant was badly damaged in the quake, the country faces a shortage of power supplies. "Japan cannot resume normal electricity supply in a few days, a process that could take weeks," said John Hoffecker, AlixPartners LLP, the US financial services firm, Ju Yohan. The country has never seen such a massive interruption in power supply. "During the earthquake and tsunami, Sony's production plant in the Tagajyo city of Miyagi Prefecture was the most damaged," he said. The plant is mainly responsible for the production of tape coating materials, mobile device touch screen and Blu-ray discs. "It is difficult for the plant to resume production in the short term, affected by the earthquake and tsunami," said Sony. Jordan Selburn, chief analyst at IHS ISuppli Corp., a leading market research firm, said Sony and its parts suppliers would have at least two weeks of product inventory to offset the negative impact of the plant's Selbon. Selbon said the shortage of major spare parts and power recovery were a bigger problem for Sony to resume production. Several tech companies are in the process of shutting down as Japan's biggest battery maker, and Panasonic has shut down two manufacturing plants in the epicenter. Panasonic spokeswoman Akira Kadota said on the phone that the company could not make an accurate estimate of when the two plants would be able to resume production. Etsuro Yamada, a spokesman for Japan's PC and home appliance maker Fujitsu, said the company had shut down 10 factories and was unable to predict when it would be able to resume production. Nor has the digital camera maker Nikon made a clear statement about when it would allow the 4 factories that have been closed to resume production. "We are doing our best to restore production," said Takuya Moriguchi, a spokesman for the company. "Sharp spokesman Miyuki Nakayama said by telephone, the company is located in the stable Wood County (Tochigi) audio-visual teaching equipment production plant and several other factories are currently in shortened working hours production status. Nakayama also said the company's manufacturing company in the quake zone has not suffered too much. Hitachi spokeswoman Kenichiro Mizoguchi said the company's 7 manufacturing plants, including elevators, auto parts and household appliances, are still in production. The company, which also sits in stable Wood County, has shortened production hours due to shortages of power supplies. (Edit/Xu Mingming)
