Motorola v. RIM Tort Smartphone enters patent war

Motorola and Rim, the two other key players in the smartphone market, have joined the fray after Nokia and Apple have been involved in intellectual property disputes, the first financial daily reported.　　23rd, Motorola formally filed a lawsuit against the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) alleging that rim, the BlackBerry maker, violated Motorola's 5 patents in the process of exporting and selling blackberries. Motorola said the five patents were early innovations in key technology areas, including wireless access, device management, user interface and power management, which are being used by rim on BlackBerry.　　Motorola has asked ITC to ban rim from exporting and selling these infringing products in the United States.　　Jonathan Meyer, Motorola's senior vice president for intellectual property law, accused rim of "delaying tactics" in the court's pending case. He said Motorola had no choice but to lodge a complaint with ITC in order to stop rim from infringing on its patents. Motorola will continue to take all necessary steps to protect intellectual property that is important to Motorola's business.　　So far, RIM has not responded to Motorola's prosecutions. This is not the first time Motorola and RIM have erupted in the intellectual property war. In 2008, RIM and Motorola sued each other after a cross patent license expired.　　For the past 10 years, most of rim's intellectual property patents have occurred between it and a software company called NTP.　　The intellectual property dispute between Motorola and Rim is familiar, as a similar intellectual-property war has been taking place between Nokia and Apple over the past few months. In October 2009, Nokia first sued Apple's iphone for violating 10 of its patents, and Apple responded, and in December 2009, Apple filed an indictment alleging that Nokia violated its 13 patents, and that Nokia had asked ITC to announce a ban on Apple's iphone, ipod and MacBook Computer products are exported, while Apple is applying for a ban on the importation of Nokia handsets.
