In the early hours of March 10, Beijing time, Tripp Jodgeri, a market research firm Global Equities study analyst, said today that Motorola Xoom tablets were "very weak" because of "poor software quality". Xoom is the first tablet to carry the Android 3.0 operating system, code-named "Hive" (Honeycomb), which was released a few weeks ago via the US mobile operator Verizon Wireless. Verionz Management said at the Deutsche Bank's media and Telecommunications conference yesterday that Xoom sales were "excellent". Jodgeri, however, disagrees. He argues that Android 3.0 frequently has a problem with application crashes; Xoom's battery duration is sometimes up to 6 hours, sometimes just 2 hours, and it's hard to understand, and Xoom's standby is only 10-12 hours, well below the Apple ipad's 30-day period. He did not specify the source of the data. Jodgeri also says there is a problem with the Android 3.0 user interface: The Auto-wrap feature is not available when text is zoomed in. "It shows that Google ignores the simple details." Jodgeri says the Android 3.0 user interface is "incredibly complex and confusing". Users need to spend time learning how to use the system, often frustrated. In his view, Google's "geek" as the core of the research and development approach is difficult to get the public any, it is likely to be only welcomed by technology people. (Yan Fei)
