National Taiwan Office: technical reasons for avoidance of double taxation Agreement pending signature

Xinhua Beijing, December 30, a spokesman for the Taiwan office liqing at today's regular press conference reiterated that the avoidance of double taxation agreement has not been signed for the time being, solely for technical reasons, is not related to politics, and is not related to the so-called sovereignty issue. Liqing pointed out that the reasons for the failure to sign the agreement, both sides have made a statement during the consultations between the two countries.　　The agreement is mainly a relatively late negotiation, and both sides agree that more time is needed to fully exchange views and co-ordinate arrangements.　　Liqing reiterated that the issue had not been signed for the time being, solely for technical reasons, unrelated to politics and to the so-called sovereignty issue. She pointed out that the two sides of the business signed the agreement is to better safeguard the legitimate interests of Taiwanese businessmen, for the vast number of Taiwanese businessmen to seek welfare and good deeds. As for Taiwan, there is a claim that after the signing of the agreement, the mainland will pursue the levy of Taiwanese tax, which is purely groundless speculation. According to the consensus reached by the leaders, the two sides will arrange follow-up consultations on the Agreement as soon as possible, and then sign it in due course.
