Desktop video storage devices, rack storage, and network device maker Netgear now sights on the cloud, with three of three cloud storage services for commercial customers.
First, the Netgear rack-ReadyNAS Storage server supports up to 100GB of online archive capacity.
Second, the latest enterprise-class ReadyNAS storage platform now supports a cloud File server option that allows a user to share files between local and outbound users.
Finally, Netgear now offers customizable interfaces designed to simplify service billing and channel Partner management.
The ease of file sharing functionality in all enterprise-class ReadyNAS systems is provided by Egnyteofficelocalcloud. Egnyte runs directly on the ReadyNAS, which is expected to be at $70 a month.
Most cloud storage servers do not implement file sharing between stations and/or outsourced sites. Netgear's new hybrid model provides a pay-as-you-go, shareable cloud storage service while keeping raw data in the station.
Netgear Storage product line manager Marksong says: "These new cloud services bring enterprises of all sizes into the managed architecture." This hybrid model allows IT departments to maintain a smooth transition in the budget cycle and improve service levels on the basis of minimal risk. Now our channel partners do not need to invest in storage capacity or cloud infrastructure to deliver these management services. ”
Benjaminwoo, vice president of IDC's Global Storage Systems research project, says many companies are interested in the cost-saving features of cloud computing, but are still reluctant to give their data to an online provider model.
"The hybrid cloud service model is a new way to combine the credibility of local storage with the benefits of cloud services, helping organizations bring a low-risk, convenient, and cost-effective approach to it," Woo said. ”
The ReadyNAS system provides 100GB of storage capacity per year, and the Readynasultra series provides 2 2GB of storage capacity.
The new ports for Readynasvault and Egnyteofficelocal provide partners with a Web interface based on maintaining location and monitoring accounts. These new hybrid cloud services allow Netgear Partners to become management service providers without investing in private cloud.
