The economic crisis, so many young people just entering it industry suddenly face the brutal competition environment, what do you suggest to them?
Dr Zhanghongjiang: I particularly hope that young people who have just entered the IT industry should believe in a truth, that is, the pursuit of personal career or development must adopt a pragmatic attitude. Pragmatism is about setting realistic goals for your future, like five or ten years later. For a variety of reasons, today's young people grow up in a relatively impetuous social environment, the story of the overnight wealth seems to be everywhere. But in the IT industry as an example, from the rise of Silicon Valley in the United States to today more than 40 years, can be left with the core technology companies, there is no substitute for the advantages of enterprises. Personal development is the same, only in the professional field has a deep knowledge and skills accumulation, passion for work, in the face of difficulties when not easily give up people can achieve real, sustainable success.
Many young people may choose to start a business because they are looking for a job, what do you think of this choice?
Dr. Zhanghongjiang: When you're young, don't start a business for money alone--especially in times of crisis, you need to be more cautious. I remember that 1997 years or so, there was a boom in Silicon Valley, and there were reminders that entrepreneurship was not easy, that only about 10 new companies survived, and that only one of the 10 surviving companies could continue to make a profit, but many people ignored the advice. The results are known to all. You can all the world today's successful High-tech industries, their initiators were not to make money, but to achieve a certain technical concept as a huge driving force. They will do their best and excluding for the belief and the cause they love, and they are more likely to succeed in business than just thinking about making money.
You have experienced the crisis of the dotcom bust at the beginning of the century, combined with your own experience, do you have any suggestions for young people when this kind of industry situation is worse?
Dr Zhanghongjiang: Perhaps many young people are worried about the employment problem during the recession. Perhaps we can look at this issue from a different angle, a person's career development in the long run depends on the core value of the individual. If you can draw from the endless work that you have done during this period, you may want to re-examine your ability structure, see where your core values are, think about what skills are necessary when the market recovers, and actually consolidate strengths and make up for weaknesses. Recently, there have been reports of a sudden rise in the number of MBA-related people in the United States, and similar cases were seen in the 2001 and 2002. When the situation is not good, it is a good choice to seize the time to recharge, and constantly improve and optimize their ability.
Now many young IT workers are faced with a sudden breakdown of the dream of struggle, for young people just entering society, this may be a very cruel thing. From an experienced perspective, what advice do you have for these frustrated young people?
Dr. Zhanghongjiang: It's important to adjust your mind. Individual or enterprise, should not always think about doing big things, make a lot of money as the starting point and motive force of all actions. More often than not, we will find that when we truly follow our own interests, we tend to get more than we expect. So have the toughness to do small things first and then do great things. As the Ancients said: A house does not sweep, why sweep the world? If the reality is not optimistic, then the rational approach is to accept the reality, must have such a measure of tolerance and courage. All in all, a realistic approach is needed in times of crisis.
I also hope that young people in the domestic IT industry and students who are still attending college should not be too worried. It's pointless to spend time worrying and upset. To see that while the recession has overshadowed many industries, the truly capable talents are welcome at all times. So instead of putting pessimism aside, take time to develop your core strengths, recharge, and make up for the inadequacy of your ability structure. This way, when winter is over, you have enough energy to fulfill your dreams.
