The new Integrated cloud computing tool enables IT professionals to achieve unified management of the previously different cloud computing platforms, including VMware Vcloud, OpenStack, and Amazon EC2.

At VMware's annual VMworld User conference, administrators will see the integration capabilities provided by VMware, previously incompatible with other platforms, to achieve their first integration of their products Vcloud director with another cloud computing platform.

For example, the company's recent acquisition of the Nicira Network virtual platform (NVP) is a load connection to the quantum cloud computing platform as a gateway and controller through the OpenStack API of Vxlan and OpenStack. Vxlan is still in the experimental stage and will not fully support quantum until 2013 when OpenStack officially released Folsom.

The compatibility of the Vcloud tool suite with the new OpenStack prompted Curiosity from an interview participant who said his company was able to use both tools to provide disaster recovery services to external customers.

OpenStack will provide financial services companies with the multi-tenant and security services they need, while Vcloud director can act as a way to manage the migration of workloads from one site to another, headquartered in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Said Jerry Nelson, senior manager of Intel Systems for open solutions.

However, Nelson said that although he would need more time to assess the concept, he could still imagine the possibility.

"Especially when it comes to disaster recovery, it's important to show the data again after the migration process," he said. "It's easy to do it once, but it's difficult for a couple or more pairs." ”

The outgoing VMware CEO, Paul Maritz, said VMware would also support the management of Amazon resources through acquisitions of dynamicops, but it does not offer the same level of cloud computing alliances between Vcloud and OpenStack.

VMware Partners Support Vcloud competitors

When VMware tries to increase usage of its cloud computing tools, at least three VMware partners will emphasise their choice to use Amazon EC2 to consolidate their server virtualization and cloud management offerings on Vcloud this week.

Manageiq, based in Mahwah, New Jersey, applies its EVM 5.0 version of the policy-based proprietary cloud management software to Amazon EC2 and Cloudwatch. In the fourth quarter of this year, it will expand its coverage of public cloud computing, including Rackspace, which is based on OpenStack. EVM version 5.0 will also recently support virtual machine management programs for Microsoft Hyper-V and Red Hat KVM.

A MANAGEIQ company customer says his company has had substantial contact with a number of public cloud computing service providers, including Vcloud partner Bluelock, but Amazon is the most common "IT" deployment.

Before the latest release of Manageiq, "We don't really have a consistent view of how much capital to invest on Amazon, let alone estimate the amount of public cloud computing," said Simon Pole, head of infrastructure development at Pitney Bowes software company. "It's pretty good to see those Amazon accounts," he said. ”

Manageiq's management said it was the second time in three years that the company was committed to integration with Amazon, but had previously been interested in the customer base, and now appears to be interested in a growing trend in mixed cloud computing.

Hotlink will also show Amazon Cloud management products directly integrated with VMware vcenter through the VMworld conference. It pros say that as their virtualized environment becomes more diverse, they are also looking for lower-cost vcloud alternatives, and the tool will be able to do the same.

"At the moment, Hotlink offers us more opportunities than VMware," said Ken Tolland, infrastructure operations vice president at California State San Jose's Flextronics International.

Hotlink executives also say the centralized management approach, which uses the familiar Vcenter interface, is different from Amazon's own products for the virtual machine import/export process used by VMware and other management programs.

Finally, Embotics's v-commander private cloud management software showcases its new links with Amazon and new hypervisor support for Microsoft Hyper-V.

There is nothing special in addition to the integration of V-commander and VMware Vcloud Partners, Embotics CEO Jay Litkey said, but "Amazon has a reputation, it's our logical preferred target." The
