News says Lenovo has reopened discussions with IBM to buy its low-end server business

Lenovo has returned to the negotiating table with IBM to discuss the acquisition of its low-end server production business, according to a person familiar with the matter, Reuters reported January 21. The two sides held talks last year on the acquisition of low-end server business, but failed to agree on a price, and therefore did not sign any agreement, the person said. It is still not clear what stage the talks have progressed, nor does it preclude price remains the focus of both sides. An IBM spokesman said in Monday that the company would not comment on the reports or similar rumours from other media outlets. Lenovo's deal with the acquisition of IBM's low-end server business is serious, with the two sides signing the final agreement will be the last few weeks, Bloomberg quoted a person familiar with the matter as saying. The Wall Street Journal also quoted an unnamed source as saying that Dell could also be one of the potential buyers, but it was unclear how serious Dell was about the matter. Dell completed the company's privatisation takeover last year with 25 billion dollars. The IBM x86 server business primarily sells server products used by enterprise data centers. Last year, Lenovo proposed to buy the sector in a bid of less than 2.5 billion dollars.
