Nokia announced on the official website that the board had resigned to Elop as the new president and CEO, and Elop will take office on September 21. Elop is currently president of Microsoft's Business software division. Before joining Microsoft, Elop served in several U.S. companies, including Juniper NX, Adobe and Macromedia. "Now is the right time to update the personnel and we need new leaders with different skills and expertise to lead the company towards new success," said Jorma Ollila, chairman of Nokia's board of directors, Chorma Olila. The Nokia board believes Stephen has the industry's experience and leadership to achieve all of Nokia's potential. Nokia also said Kallasvuo would receive 4.6 million euros in severance payments.
