In the morning of Tuesday, Nokia held a press conference in San Francisco to launch its latest cloud-based "here" map service.

At the press conference, Nokia CEO Elop (Stephen Elop) first introduced "Here" map services. "Maps and location-based experiences should inspire us to perceive the world," he said. "And Nokia is currently working on" creating more personalized map services to change the way we navigate our lives. ”

He said the "quality and quantity" of data used by the Nokia "Here" map service was not even thought of by Nokia before. and said "Here" map service will support multiple mobile platforms and devices.

' We intend to allow every user to use the service on any device and build it into the best positioning platform in the industry, ' he added. "The openness of the ' here ' map is one of its biggest features-distinguishing it from other map services," Elop said. ”

Nokia, for example, said it would launch a software tools Development Kit (SDK) based on the Android platform in the first quarter of 2013. And Nokia is expected to launch the map service for the Apple iOS platform in the coming weeks. In addition, Nokia has reached an agreement with Mozilla to launch a new location-based service based on HTML5 in the future.

Michael Halbherr, head of Nokia's location and business department, said that building such a product would require a lot of scalability because it would be Michael Habb based on user-generated data.

"We need better services to get more users to come here," says Hubble. It explains that the higher the user's understanding of the use of maps, the better the service of the map.

Hubble also highlighted the multiple data source features of the "Here" map service. He said, "here" map from different sources to collect data, and a variety of ways to build a map platform, which is the target of Nokia. "We need to deal with millions of updates, and if my daily life depends on it, the content on the map must be accurate." ”

Hubble also briefed Nokia on recent acquisitions of Earthmine. "After the acquisition of Earthmine, we are not only getting the good technology that is conducive to the development of the 3D roadmap," he said. "Moreover, Nokia will work with Earthmine to reach a new level in the business of photographic capture and map modeling solutions," he said.

The first goal of the "here" map is to portray a 3D model for the city, Hubble said. He also said Nokia wanted to "compute the city, not just virtualize it." ”

"Here" maps are very different from using static diagrams and tagging them, says Hubble. "Here" maps actually accumulate millions of map layers, they are on demand, and information is collected based on user requirements. The benefits, Hubble said, include providing users with a truly offline map that can be quickly rendered locally, with very low bandwidth requirements because the global map data is only 12GB.

In any case, however, the concept of the map has not changed, instead, it is only an evolution of the content.

In Nokia's latest Lumia smartphone, which was launched earlier this year, it has updated its map function, adding maps, Transit, and pulse functions.

To further underscore Nokia's success in digital maps, Elop says it will become the first vendor to provide digital map services to users on six continents. He also noted that Nokia would use more than 80,000 data sources to provide daily updates to its maps.

In his speech, Hubble also mentioned that the daily update of the Nokia map exceeded 2.7 million changes, which were industrialized and the data came from local resources.
