Nokia's Symbian and Meego app stores were halted yesterday, and the App Store will be shut down once Microsoft completes a deal to buy the Nokia handset business.

While those apps can still be downloaded by users, developers will not be able to solve the problem by using the Nokia store if any further vulnerabilities are detected.

But according to all about Symbian reports, if developers need to upgrade an application, they have several other options, including publishing and upgrading self-signed application files from their own servers, or publishing unsigned files to Nokia devices running regular firmware.

While developers can still upgrade apps outside of the store, that doesn't mean users will get the upgrade files. Since the Nokia store is closed, users will not be notified automatically even if a new upgrade file is released.
