KeywordsNokia acquisition China market mobile business
Nokia, Wen Liujia, who sold his mobile phone, seems to be scarier than the old Nokia, which has a mobile phone business. Microsoft's 7.2 billion-dollar takeover of Nokia's mobile phone business is now experiencing a key node in China: A number of local handset makers have submitted reports to the Ministry of Commerce to push the deal's antitrust merger review. The central question they are worried about is whether Microsoft and Nokia will become patented monsters, charging high royalties to handset makers. That means most handset makers are likely to be pushed to the brink of loss. Behind the game of interest, what did these local handset makers tell the Ministry of Commerce? The head of the intellectual property Department of a domestic handset maker told us that in November this year, almost with Nokia shareholders agreed to approve the acquisition, the Ministry of Industry and Telecommunications Institute convened a number of mobile phone manufacturers to discuss Microsoft's takeover of Nokia. One months later, according to his understanding, the current Huawei, Millet, ZTE, cool faction and other domestic mobile phone manufacturers have submitted to the Ministry of Commerce report. In his view, from the Microsoft Point of view, this is actually the WP system and Android competition between the system. Microsoft's lead WP system, although the Android system is free to open, but because the Android system is heavily used by Microsoft's patented technology, so Android handset manufacturers need to bear the cost of Microsoft's patent. If the Nokia takeover were to be achieved, Microsoft would have a bigger say and could tighten the pressure on Android handset makers.
