Open source drives are something that Linux developers and users care about very much, but unfortunately, many companies don't care about it, such as Nvidia has always been open source http://www.aliyun.com/zixun/aggregation/36046.html "> Graphics driver not cold, the Linux community is very dissatisfied with it, Linus Torvalds even once in public abuse "fxxk You".
Nvidia has always preferred its own closed-source drivers, easy to use, can be based on internal code to quickly release high-performance drivers, but the lack of a stable external driver API, internal nuclear development is very unfriendly, so it is difficult to integrate into the new kernel, resulting in developers complains.
But soon, things are going to change. First, Nvidia will publish some basic GPU documents on its official website to help the N card open source drive project Nouveau improve its drive quality and functionality.
Further, Nvidia's part-driven developers will also come forward and answer questions from developers about N-card drivers to get closer to each other.
This is still a small step, Nvidia will not publish any existing internal code, and will not contribute to open source engineering code, which is the key to ensure the quality of Nvidia Linux graphics drive, but in any case, compared to the completely closed attitude, at least take the first step towards openness, I hope to go farther in the future.
Interestingly, AMD announced the Hawaii GPU earlier this generation will strengthen the support of Linux drivers, but has not disclosed any details. The open source enthusiasts are blessed.
