Open source software and hardware: Ford Motor's OPENXC program was published 22 hours ago | Times Read | SOURCE readwrite| 0 Reviews | Author Brian S hallsxsw Ford auto OPENXC car Networking industry application Open Source Abstract: In the "shared economy" promoted by the Internet, the future car may be more intelligent than you might think, even smarter than smartphones, in Ford's report on future trends in car design. Let the car hardware and software like App Store application so that consumers buy installation, car entertainment system users to upgrade their own, automotive applications synchronous transfer. Such a smart car is hard to imagine but mouth-watering.
For you, is traffic congestion always the pain at work? It is an era of car-infested, with about 1 billion vehicles worldwide currently in use. While we have been looking forward to the widespread popularity of driverless cars such as Google, there is no denying that there has been a significant change in the auto industry today. In the future, perhaps your car will be more than you can imagine, the car with the application may even far more than your smartphone. Perhaps under the internet's "shared economy", you will not have a complete car of your own, just hire, borrow, or ride a car when you need it.
Do you think such a car is a temptation? At the very least, you will not have to pay to save money to buy a car to marry a daughter-in-law, but also to give you the ultimate intelligent experience. But these are just some of the ideas for future cars that are being held at the SXSW2013 conference in Texas, United States. In fact, as long as you go to "Car City" Detroit visit, you will understand the "car should be a smartphone platform," where the idea came from.
Ford: Future Car Blueprint
In Austin's "Roaming enthusiasts" lobby, Sheryl Connelly, the Ford Motor Company's global consumer and future design trends research Manager, presented a report on future automotive trends to participants. In the report, Connelly talked about how Ford sees the overall global development trend and considers the industry's various rumours. At the same time, it shows that Ford is trying to find a solution to the future crisis, perhaps because of soaring oil prices, and possibly aliens harassing the planet.

How does Ford's "insider futuristic" measure its future design trends? Connelly gave his answer: "I need to focus on things outside of the auto industry, because only by being aware of what is happening in the social, technological, economic, environmental and political spheres, can we accurately predict future trends that may have an impact on consumer values, attitudes and behaviour. We searched for 1.1-D changes and then, together with our colleagues in the Ford design and product Development department, turned this into our business proposition. ”
The contents of each proposition are very different. For example, people may be more willing to keep their ownership of cars for a long time than in the past, and sometimes they may have no choice because of economic problems. In an interconnected world, this could mean that many cars, including voice recognition, apps, and connectivity, are more replaceable, simpler, and cheaper to update upgrades to new features of the car module. This also means that the future of the car, inevitably to embark on the application of synchronized road.
OPENXC Plan
So what exactly is Ford's definition of a future car? Team Detroit Executive creative director Scott Lange gave the answer.

Lange says the current auto industry is in the mainstream, and carmakers are looking for "open access" to car data, including feature information, and real-time information such as micro-controllers, sensors, speeds, ambient temperatures, and so on. In addition, Lange also deliberately pointed out in Ford inside the brewing openxc plan.
OPENXC combines open source hardware and software to enable cars to tailor applications to customer needs and to install and update pluggable car modules, and OPENXC also has the ability to send car data to developers and owners in real time. At present, although the OPENXC project is still under study, it has aroused the interest of many developers.

and its development team says the car is becoming more and more connected, but until now, consumers are not too clear about the concept of smart cars, car entertainment system updates are very few. Why not split the user-facing hardware from the car and build a store like the App Store for consumers to buy or install? Why the car entertainment system hardware can not be modular, allowing users to upgrade themselves? How to realize the synchronous transfer of automobile application? Smartphones, by contrast, occupy the majority of human life, from entertainment to communication, but when you drive, do you dare to do this with your mobile phone? Therefore, the future of the car is bound to be safe in the premise, to provide users with a full range of services, like smartphones. (Compile/Don small Zebian/Zhang)
