The survey noted that of all cloud deployments they surveyed, there were only 3% cloud projects that did not use open source software at all, and 69% of cloud projects used Open-source software where possible.

The following figure shows some important data extracted from the survey. For the open source community, some other important data is that 58% of the respondents still do not have a cloud computing strategy. Linux is naturally the most important cloud operating system, with a usage rate of over 80%. Surprisingly, however, Microsoft's operating system also has a whopping 66% utilization in cloud deployments.

The survey's rationale for adopting cloud solutions is not surprising: companies have an extraordinary interest in cloud computing. Surveys show that 61% of companies are still in the process of  or planning, and some have already adopted cloud computing strategies (but have not yet implemented them). 20% of companies have implemented cloud computing, and 20% have not yet developed cloud computing implementation plans.

Saving hardware investment is the first reason many companies accept cloud computing (68%). In addition, faster infrastructure deployment (66%) reduces system management burdens (57%) and is also at the forefront of cloud adoption grounds. The CTO surveyed said scalability (71%) was the main reason they adopted cloud computing. The second is flexibility, which is to dynamically adjust resources according to requirements change (61%).

Of course, the fairness of the survey, readers need to judge for themselves, because the three companies sponsoring the survey themselves are open source enterprises.

Cloud computing is one of the most discussed it trends in recent years. Its potential to increase efficiency, improve reliability and the overall impact on enterprise productivity is enormous. And with the development of the ecosystem of cloud computing, understanding the factors that affect the adoption of cloud computing becomes more important so that members of the entire cloud ecosystem can adapt to the needs of cloud users.

The 2011 Cloud Computing Development Outlook report aims to about the use of virtualization and cloud computing technologies among enterprise users to help the public understand the evolution of cloud computing technology and its services. The results of the survey came from a survey of more than 500 users in the Bitnami, cloud.com and Zenoss Open source and Systems management communities in the second quarter of 2011. The goal is to look at the trends in cloud computing technology and provide a reference for deploying virtual infrastructure.
