Operating System FAQ: Some recommended changes to Windows system defaults

One, desktop parts


set to Auto Arrange icons:

Windows presets do not automatically arrange icons on the desktop, if you want to automatically arrange icons: On the desktop, press the right mouse button, select the "Arrange Icons">> Auto Arrange.

Turn off flashy animations:

Windows presets are animated, and I think this is a better feature than nothing, and you'll feel that the Start menu is getting faster when you turn it off.

• Hide files and folders set to: Show All Files and folders (Windows Me has this)

• Parts of hidden files: change to show All files (Windows 98)

Other Resource manager settings, all of which remain at the default value, as determined. Of course, you can do more with your preferences.


How to display all file-bar columns:

Start Explorer, select View ">>" details, select View ">>" Folder Options, go to view, press Similar to the current folder, all files can be sorted in columns.
