Information yearns for freedom--although I have not yet figured out why, in my years of technical journalism, I've found that this is true. No matter what truth you are chasing, just ask the right way and you will get what you want.

Because I understand this, I was shocked in the past few weeks when I found that people were increasingly willing to share (information) in secret. Admittedly, there are a lot of false information on the Web. But in the past few weeks, we have seen a considerable amount of "explosive material".

What's going on?

In the past--I mean, three years ago--the reporter had an anonymous source of information, like secret, though not 100% anonymous, but for you, a reader, there is no trace. There is no doubt that the journalist knows the true identity of the person who blew the material, but conceals it for protection purposes.

At the same time, people practice their "unspoken rules." One of the biggest myths about technology reporting is-let me be bold enough to speculate that it applies to all news stories-that the person who gives information is from goodwill or conscience. At some point this is true, but more often than not: the material person will also seek personal gain by providing information.

And I love this change. Just like Lt. Needless to say: Secret changed the relationship between news makers and the reporter, not to speak of, liberating people's thirst for truth-whether you are a material person or a reader.
