Panasonic buys email and other services to IBM to hit the industry's biggest cloud computing deal

Beijing time January 14 afternoon news, according to foreign media reports, Panasonic for its 380,000 employees to IBM bought web-based e-mail system services, the industry to date the largest cloud computing transactions.  This is a big win for IBM, which is lagging behind rivals Amazon, Google, Microsoft and Salesforce.com in the cloud computing product sector.  Gartner, a market-research firm, estimates that sales of cloud-based applications, including e-mail systems, will grow by 47% this year to $9.6 billion trillion. Panasonic's purchase of IBM products includes a web-based Lotus mail system and new cloud computing software covering calendars, Web conferencing, file sharing, social networking and other collaborative tools.
