Parallels launches HP Moonshot server virtualization software

The HP Moonshot server consists of the HP Moonshot 1500 chassis and the HP ProLiant moonshot servers that are optimized for application. HP Moon Server 1500 is a 4.3U server chassis that shares management resources, networks, storage resources, power cords, cooling, components, direct-attached disk drives, and two network switches. It supports up to 45 hot-swappable, efficient, very low-power servers, each of which can be adjusted to a specific workload.

With a maximum of 1800 servers per rack supported by HP Moonshot servers, the required space for the HP moonshot server is only 1/8 of the traditional server, effectively addressing the physical space problems of the data center. At the same time, HP Moonshot 1500 per chassis sharing includes the traditional components of Internet grid, HP integrated lights-out management, power supply and cooling fan. These shared components effectively reduce complexity and help reduce energy consumption and footprint.

Comment: Currently the HP Moonshot server is using the Intel Atom processor, so virtualization on its platform is not difficult. However, the most characteristic of micro-server is high density and low power consumption, it is questionable whether it is necessary to adopt virtualization technology in the case of high server density.
