"Partnering" Dell to forge new partnerships with Cloudera into the Hadoop camp

Recently, Dell announced a new partnership with Cloudera to join the increasingly large Apache Hadoop club.

Cloudera was the first commercial deployment of the open source data analysis suite, detached from Yahoo's research and development department in 2006. Dell will provide the next generation of PowerEdge C servers and network components, channels, and sales networks to refine new deployments.

These services include Dell's management tools, training, technical support, and other professional services. "This is a well-defined reference framework to help customers quickly develop Hadoop deployment strategies within the enterprise," said John Igoe, executive director of Dell Cloud Solutions. ”

Dell/cloudera for Apache Hadoop involves Cloudera, Dell Crowbar software, Cloudera Enterprise and Dell PowerEdge C2100 (subsequent additions to other models) servers, The combination of the PowerConnect 6248 48 port Layer 3 switch also includes joint service (Cloudera or Dell) support and Deployment wizards.

Dell/cloudera for Apache Hadoop can be used in a number of vertical areas, but first in the areas of finance, energy, public and telecommunications, research institutes, retailing, and internet media.

The new implementation project is designed to reduce the complexity of deploying, configuring, and managing Hadoop systems, with less management costs than old-fashioned analysis packages and consulting services.

The deployment and use of Hadoop is complex and lacks a more practical front-end. Dell's philosophy is to provide a single source for customers to deploy, manage, and extend a comprehensive stack based on Apache Hadoop.

There are a number of vendors now offering the business deployment or support of Hadoop. Cloudera, IBM, and Platform computing first developed their own commercial Apache Hadoop deployments. There are also EMC, NETAPP, SGI, and Yahoo.

Igoe says the new reference architecture and all hardware will be available by the end of August.
