According to foreign media reports, ebay's payment platform PayPal, the Vice-President for international product Strategy Sham Schlog (Sam Shrauger), said in an interview that PayPal now has the potential to grow beyond the parent company ebay, the company may seek development through acquisitions.
ebay's third-quarter earnings, released in October this year, showed that the company, when Ti Ying, received $2.249 billion trillion, a 1% increase from $2.238 billion a year earlier, and a net profit of 431.9 million dollars, up 349.7 million from the same period last year. Among them, ebay net Auction service revenue of 1.411 billion U.S. dollars, the growth of 3%;paypal net revenue of 838.2 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 22%. PayPal's current revenue exceeds 37% of ebay's total revenue, up from 23% in the same period last year. PayPal's revenue has increased 16% over the past year, while ebay's overall revenue has grown by just 3% per cent over the same period.
Schlog, who joined PayPal in 2004, was appointed to start the company's merchant services business sector, which also marks the beginning of PayPal's real expansion into the area under the jurisdiction of ebay. Overall payments to the business sector of Merchant services amounted to $39.5 billion in 2009, up 33% from the previous year.
Last year, PayPal helped complete digital business sales of up to 2 billion dollars. In the first 6 months of this year, that figure has reached 1.3 billion dollars. In addition, PayPal is expected to complete more than 700 million dollars in mobile payment business this year.
Schlog in an interview about the company's current challenges and said that if growth opportunities appeared outside of ebay, PayPal might seek development through acquisitions.
