Samsung will stop selling notebook products in Europe because of market demand, according to a announcement released this week in Beijing September 24 morning. A Samsung spokesman said: We will quickly adapt to market demand. In Europe, from now on, we will stop selling notebooks including Chromebook. This decision is specific to the region and does not reflect the situation in other markets. In the past few years, global PC sales have declined, while Sony (17.37,0.01,0.06%) has sold its notebook business. However, Samsung released the Ativ book Notebook, which runs Windows systems, at the 2014 American International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), and then released Chromebook 2. In addition, notebook sales in the Western European market have been at a good level for the past 10 years. Gartner, a market-research firm, has also pointed out that global PC sales are stabilizing in the near term and Chromebook sales are expected to grow sharply in the coming years. As a result, the industry believes that Samsung's choice to withdraw from the European notebook market may be premature. However, Samsung's announcement also left room for the company to continue selling notebooks in the European market if market conditions improved. (Lili)
