NetEase Science and technology news August 9, according to foreign media reports, social network Pinterest founder Ben Silberman (Ben Silbermann) recently received the "Bloomberg Business Weekly" interview, on how the company's services to male users, and how the enterprise to achieve monetization problems to be answered. The following is a summary of the interview:

Q: How do you use Pinterest now?

A: Like many typical users, I use it to collect recipes and so on. I have a child recently, so I use it to find some activities for my children. I also use it to keep a gift for my wife and track some of the items I want to buy.

Q: There is a stereotype that--pinterest is a product for female users.

A: Most of our users today are women, but the service itself is created for everyone and we find that the more you use it, the more you can personalize it. This has always been our direction.

Q: Pinterest does this brand represent women? Is it reasonable for male users to use them?

Answer: Time will tell us the answer. Facebook was initially a service for college students, and Twitter started with the tech sector, but now it's open.

Q: What will be able to help broaden attractiveness?

A: We've been trying to make sure that when you first use Pinterest, you're not immediately thrown into a vast public square, and we want to help you focus on what's actually interesting. We also want to help you find someone who can share your ideas more quickly. For me, this will make Pinterest more attractive.

Q: Why do you think the world needs Pinterest?

A: When I was a kid, I always liked to collect things, and the original motivation was to create a place where you could put all kinds of collectibles and share them with other people with the same hobbies or interests. Your collection has already explained what kind of person you are and what kind of life you expect.

Q: What did you collect?

A: When I was a child, I collected insects, and my father had a lot of books. He was always proud of his bookshelf. These are some of the original things.

Q: How does Pinterest make money?

A: We haven't made any money yet. But the big idea of the company is that there is a direct link between what the user collects and the last thing they buy. So we think there's some kind of pattern in between, and we can actually make Pinterest more useful. We can bring more customers to the enterprise, and help them to sell products, connect users.

Q: I suspect that understanding people's tastes and organizing them together will be invaluable to marketers.

A: People not only use Pinterest to discover new things, they also use it as a management tool to track the dynamics of interesting things. We do have some strong ideas for helping people find exciting things, but we are more so in helping people take action. Sometimes, action refers to finding something that can be done with the children or special things that may be eaten in the morning tea. But sometimes it may be a consumption.

Q: How do you achieve Pinterest commercialization without affecting community activities? How do you save experience?

A: This involves two parts of our mission. No matter what we do, can we help our users find something exciting? Once discovered, can we help users take action quickly? The most we get from users now is, "Gosh, I wish I'd just bought that thing." ”

Q: Are you using Amazon's AWS Cloud services?

A: Yes, in many ways.

Q: Given the scale of computational power requirements, Pinterest could not be realized and existed 10 years ago.

A: There is no need to spend too much money to achieve it now.

Q: I have a friend who is addicted to Pinterest, so I have to ask: What do you think is the reasonable retention time of a user on Pinterest every day? What is considered excessive?

A: That sounds strange, but we really want people to get their inspiration from the Pinterest and then leave the computer to do the thinking. I think people are clever at using their time. I don't know about your friend, but I hope that Pinterest will be a service that allows users to revisit it, like: "You see, it makes my life more colorful." Instead of isolating people from the real world.
