Computer giant Hewlett-Packard announced in Thursday local time that 2400 mobile technology patents have been sold to the wireless chip manufacturers Qualcomm. HP did not disclose the specific financial terms of the patent acquisition, but said the technology patents sold included 1400 U.S. Patent and patent applications and 100 other patents and patent applications registered in other countries. Among the 2400 patents, including palm, iPAQ and bitphone, are patents involving mobile communications technology. The patents come from three companies that Hewlett-Packard acquired in 2002, 2006 and 2010, including Compaq (COMPAQ), Bitfone, and Palm, which was bought with 1.2 billion dollars in cash. Hewlett-Packard announced earlier this month that it intends to return to the mobile phone market and launch a tablet device for the Indian market.
