The following is a transcript of this interview:
Inway: Thank you for accepting my visit to stone, and first of all to ask you to talk about what motivates you to come to China to participate in the search convention? What do you expect from this trip to China, about search or China?
Rand: I wanted to go to China for my first search conference last year, but the time has not been adjusted. This year, I know I must come to China. After all, Americans are often culturally more isolated, often ignoring what is happening in other parts of the world, whether political, regional or social. I think that this trend should be changed, and as a person who believes that this change must happen, it is my responsibility to see as much of it as possible.
China is slowly becoming an important political and economic force in the world. From a purely business point of view, ignoring the size, influence and importance of the Chinese market, such losses cannot be remedied. Although we do not have a direct business with China's companies and customers, but I hope this trip can build a bridge, more understanding of the Chinese market, but also let the Chinese market understand the value of SEOmoz.
This trip, I plan to visit several cities, Xi ' An, Xiamen, Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong, I hope this trip can be from a number of different angles to understand the beautiful country of China.
To be honest, I don't know what I can expect, but it can happen. Although I do not have a clear goal, but I believe that this trip can meet some important people, and establish a long-term friendship, and then derive business opportunities.
This is a new experience for me, I am more excited that my grandfather will come with me to China, he is an engineer, has been to China many times, for his peers, I feel extremely happy.
Inway: Thank you for your answer, Rand, and we can talk about search and search conferences. Stone, please start first.
Stone: Hello, Rand, you have a lot of fans in China and this should be your first time dealing with Chinese readers. How do you feel?
Rand: I'm thrilled to be able to participate in this conversation about Chinese search engines. I hope to learn more from every Chinese I meet.
Stone: China's many SEO, found that a lot of enterprises in the name of consulting services, is actually want to know how SEO is, or get some free programs and suggestions, do not know in the United States to provide SEO services are often encountered similar things?
Rand: The same thing happens frequently in the United States, so many (Sem/seo) companies charge thousands of of dollars in program and quote fees.
Stone: China. cn domain Price reduced to 1RMB, so that the cost of domain names can be almost negligible. Some people think that this will lead to spam rampage. Some people even worry about. cn domain name Garbage flooding, some search engines, such as Google will be the overall power down. cn domain name. What do you think of this view?
Rand: I don't think so. Although lowering the price of the domain name will make the cost of making rubbish drop. But the search engine does not therefore have a top domain name too much rubbish and simply directly down the right. They will either specify a tighter algorithm directly or develop a "Sandbox" process to delay the new site from getting the rankings.
Stone: Do you think SEO is a very simple thing? How to become a qualified SEO?
Rand: It's never going to be easy! SEO requires you to keep an eye on the many details that appear on the market every day. Just looking at the changes and updates of search engines and external traffic factors is a very scary challenge.
Stone: China currently has a large number of SEO beginners, they are very interested in SEO, you can give them some suggestions for learning methods? It's best to have some cheat notes.
Rand: There are some introductory materials in English (including SEOmoz's own SEO beginner's Guide) I often recommend to friends in North America and Europe. But I have not noticed that the Chinese market has the information that can help SEO beginners quickly familiar with their learning objects.
Stone: Your blog often talks about the link bait. Can you recommend a few wonderful link bait cases? It's best if you've been involved.
Rand: I'd be happy to recommend some of the following cases we're involved in:
Http://www.seomoz.org/blog/21-tactics-to-increase-blog-traffic-keyword "could blog traffic" ranked first
http://www.drivl.com/posts/view/738-keyword "Eton mascots" ranked second.
Http://www.seomoz.org/ip2loc-keyword "IP Location Lookup" ranked first.
Http://www.seomoz.org/article/social-media-marketing-tactics-keyword "social media marketing" ranked second.
Stone: Do you think the site of web2.0 and the traditional site of the SEO to explain the difference? For example, such as digg.com or YouTube sites, the implementation of SEO should be aware of those places?
Rand: I think all seo is nothing more than two elements: satisfying search engine friendliness and keyword research.
Stone: In China, many people including the media and even search engine manufacturers may be biased against SEO. Thought to be meaningless, and even directly understood as spam. I think that's the same idea in the United States. How do you respond when you face this challenge?
Rand: In the early days, we needed to prove that when a company saw that they were getting target traffic, and that the traffic eventually turned into customers, they realized the real value of SEO. I think this is why so many SEO enthusiasts started because of the operation of their own site to contact SEO. I believe China will experience the same situation.
Stone: Talk about SEOmoz. We would like to know what will keep you up to date and consistently provide quality content?
Rand: To be a company that delivers high value services, I have to make sure I'm at the forefront of the industry. Blogging is a way to help achieve this goal and document our work and our approach. Knowledge sharing is a very good marketing tool. And the knowledge that we share, attracts a large number of companies every day to inquire about the relevant services.
Stone: Can you give a brief introduction to the topic of your speech at SES? What do you most want to know about Chinese search engine and search engine marketing market through SES meeting?
Rand: I'm very interested in understanding the market situation of Chinese search engine marketing. For example, how do users use search engines? Which search engine is more popular? Search engine ranking algorithm and flow composition and the European and American market what is different? Wait a minute
Stone: Have you ever had customers get business opportunities from China?
Rand: We've served a company that sells perfume around the world. They have a lot of sellers in China, mainly Hong Kong and of course other cities.
Stone: Can you simply describe SEOmoz's goal in one or two words?
Rand:seomoz is committed to providing a full range of industry-leading resources for network marketers and technology developers.
Inway: Let's talk about life and leisure. This is the first time you visit China, what is the most you want to eat in China?
Rand: I've seen a lot of Japanese versions of Iron Chef (the Iron Chef reality show, a gourmet show), and I like some of the Chinese dishes mentioned. I would like to try the real Sichuan food, spicy and fragrant and sweet to eat.
