This includes two updates to previous deployments of Ibm®rational®application Developer and Rational®software Architect for Websphere®software, and two applications dedicated to enterprise software development, that is, Rational®developer for power Bae Software™ and rational®developer for System z®. In this article, Jean-yves Rigolet describes how the development team can benefit from these tools.
As an application developer or tester, we want faster and more reliable access to a higher quality development and testing environment in order to speed up our work. In short, we want to be more agile.
In addition, more and more enterprise customers are beginning to tire of the management of desktop applications, especially large companies with dozens of, hundreds of, or even thousands of developers. Imagine an application software and an operating system emergency patch that you will understand. Recall that we all have a terminal for application development, the management environment is very simple, but on the desktop computer, this becomes a heavy task.
However, since we are practitioners ourselves, we have recognized and fully understand the needs of the development team and the relevant operations team. This is why we provide all Rational integrated development environments on the cloud.
What's the point of doing this?
The 1th that you should realize is that the cloud-based integrated development environment does not change the way you write code or share your model or source code with coworkers. It may change the way you test your code.
All 4 Rational development environments provided on Ibm®smartcloud Enterprise are designed for collaboration. They all contain ibm®rational team CONCERT™ECLIPSE clients and integrated development environment tools.
Because your ibm®rational® development environment does not run on the physical machines in your network, you obviously need a way to access the environment remotely.
Along with the practitioner's desktop, you will find that the following software has been installed and configured in all 4 cloud-based Rational integrated development environment mirrors:
IBM Rational Team Concert, Eclipse client 4.0.1 SSH and Virtual receptacle Computing (VNC) server for secure remote access from a lightweight desktop development environment run by automated scripts Getting Started documents to help you quickly access your development environment
As you can see in Figure 1, the virtual development environment enables you to securely access your private infrastructure and machines using VLANs. This leverages private resources that cannot or should not be placed on the public cloud infrastructure so that practitioners can do their job.

Request a new instance for your cloud development environment
Imagine the following scenario: Your company allows you to access SmartCloud Enterprise, and you are ready to start accessing the new development environment for the first time.
Hosting a virtual desktop environment on the cloud is a great convenience for developers. With the resources available on the SmartCloud Enterprise, it is easy to ration and access your environment.
While it is easy to access the Rational development environment, it is recommended that you take a look at the YouTube video showing all the steps before you start (see the Resources section for a link).
