Once hailed as a killer application, and now just as an important tool of recovery as a service (RaaS) is becoming one of the most important weapons for small or midsize enterprises to consider cloud backup and recycling services.

As of 2014, 30% of midsize enterprises will use recovery as a service (RSSS) to gain the ability to backup and restore virtual machines, according to Computerworld's research.

Gartner introduced Raas in the following ways:

In the service provider's virtual machine and product data cloud, Raas is used for replication management, along with the means of activating virtual machines to support recovery testing or actual recovery operations. Location of the data center device, the area of the provider's cloud computing device causes different providers to be priced differently.

According to Garner, two big camps are forming in the medium sized enterprises that are currently using RAAS. The first is to use the Server virtual Recovery feature and the storage area based replication configuration to propose a solution for disaster recovery within some applications. The second is to implement cloud services as an alternative to more traditional disaster recovery resources.

Based on the benefits of cloud disaster recovery, Data Center Knowledge says it encompasses these three broad areas:

The cloud's pay-per-pay model greatly reduces the cost of resources required before and during different levels of disaster.

Cloud resources can be added quickly and finely, without the need for a lot of upfront investment, and the cost can be expanded smoothly.

The cloud platform manages and maintains disaster recovery servers and storage devices, lowers it costs, and reduces the impact of disaster-site failures.

The development of Raas points to growing complexity in cloud services, such as web hosting providers like virtual networks that want to add new disaster recovery options to their existing virtual platforms.
