Review on the research progress of the rendering farm

As a new application in the field of high performance computing, rendering has the application characteristic of compute-intensive and data-intensive, how to improve the efficiency of rendering farm to make large-scale and rapid rendering is becoming a hot topic in recent years. This paper introduces the present situation of the application of the rendering farm at home and abroad, then expounds the organization structure and workflow of the rendering farm. Then, the author makes a comprehensive analysis and comparison on the three aspects, such as optimizing job scheduling algorithm, improving load balancing strategy and perfecting rendering management platform. Finally, this paper discusses and summarizes the problems that need further study in the four aspects of rendering farm in cloud computing background, such as rendering job scheduling strategy, heterogeneous cluster rendering task distribution algorithm, cloud model based rendering farm architecture and load balancing strategy.
