Foxconn will sell its own electronics, as well as other brands of consumer electronics, on the test-run website.
The Wall Street Journal quoted sources as saying that Mr. Terry Gou, chairman of Foxconn, plans to make the new shopping site more than Beijing's second-largest power maker in three years.
Foxconn closed all its electronics stores in mainland China in 2013, but has since continued to recruit people with an electric-business background, and has dug up some executives at Lenovo's shopping website.
Foxconn's electric business is in Shanghai, at the helm of Iris Yu, a former executive at Newegg.com, a computer product online retailer based in California.
Mr. Gou was shocked by Alibaba's success and consulted Alibaba founder Jack Ma on the nascent e-commerce business of Foxconn, people familiar with the matter said.
To increase site traffic, Foxconn plans to introduce a product assessment service to the site using the quality inspection and validation procedures used in the company's factories. For example, a Foxconn laboratory usually detects the battery life of a device and the speed at which it runs, before shipping. (Xiao Feng)
