"Sadie Network News" Beijing time June 27, according to foreign media reports, Samsung, Motorola and other high-end Android smartphone manufacturers have been very disappointed with Google's mobile operating system. This will open the door to another HP's webOS platform. Analyst Trip Chowdry, a marketing research firm Global Equities, said Motorola, Samsung and Sony are beginning to feel that their high-end handsets and tablets are almost indistinguishable from consumers in the eyes of Huawei's $20 Android phone and ZTE's $150 Tablet PC. They are even concerned that the fragmentation of Android and its multiple operating system versions, carrier versions, and device versions may dilute their global brand value. Chowdry said Sony, Motorola and Samsung were very worried that consumers would start to choose devices based on Apple iOS rather than their Android phones and Tablet PCs. According to the current situation, Android may have peaked and may begin to slow down and gradually decline. This opens the door for HP. Hewlett-Packard's chief executive, Leo Apotheker, said HP had a responsibility to license the webOS licenses to the phones and tablet makers. Chowdry said that webOS offered only two or three reference designs to three or four OEM companies to limit the kind of fragmentation that currently exists in the Android ecosystem. The analyst believes HP will charge a 50 to 75 dollar licence fee for each OEM smartphone or tablet, allowing manufacturers and OEM partners such as Samsung, Motorola and Sony to push their high-end platforms to depress low-end rivals such as Huawei and ZTE. And since webOS is not free, users may be willing to pay for apps, making HP a more viable operating system option for Biandro, Apple's iOS and popular app stores.
