Scalablast is a high-performance multiprocessor for performing NCBI blast libraries. It supports all 5 main program types (BLASTN, BLASTP, Tblastn, Tblastx, BLASTX) and multiple output formats (pairwise, tabular, and XML). It can run on a multiprocessor system that has MPI installed and can run on a variety of interconnects, including InfiniBand, Quadrics, and Ethernet. The purpose of the design is to run a large number of queries on large or small databases, and to dynamically schedule the use of fault elasticity, the blast of parallel computations across the processor.
