Schmidt vs. jobs, Android vs. IOS

The following is excerpted from Eric Schmidt and Jonathan Rosenberg's new book, "How to Google works". 2001 to 2011,eric Schmidt (hereinafter referred to as Schmidt) as Google's CEO. Under his leadership, Google has transformed from a Silicon Valley start-up into a leading global technology giant with an annual income of more than 55 billion dollars. He is now the executive chairman of Google. In 2002, Jonathan Rosenberg joined Google and was in charge of the design, customer development, advertising and product division, which includes search, advertising, gmail,android and apps and chrome products. He now serves as advisor to Google CEO Larry page.

In March 2010, a bright spring day, in Silicon Valley's Palo Alto, Schmidt sat in his car, parked at the crossroads of Embarcadero Avenue and El Camino Real. He looked at the trees around Stanford University football field, waiting for the red light, while remembering what had happened in the past few hours.

Just now, he and Apple CEO Steve Jobs drank coffee in a restaurant called Califia. They sat outside the café and heated discussions about Google's mobile operating system, Android, which was still open. Jobs is convinced that the new Open-source operating system is based on Apple's proprietary intellectual property technology. ' We haven't violated Apple's intellectual property rights, ' Mr. Schmidt argues. ' In fact, Android is entirely our own creation. ' But his argument is not recognized. "There is a battle to be fought." As Schmidt thought.

Mr. Schmidt saw jobs for the first time in 1993. At that time, Schmidt was at Sun, and Jobs was next. Next has his own computer language, C, at which time Schmidt and his colleagues went to next's office to hear jobs give them an introduction. Mr. Jobs told them the virtues of C, trying to convince Sun scientists that C would be what they needed, a new language for Sun's next-generation programming framework.

As a result, jobs and Schmidt had a long friendship, and Mr. Schmidt was invited to join Apple's board in the summer of 2006. Before he took the job, he had a conversation with jobs about potential conflicts between Apple and Google. Apple is developing the iphone, and Google acquired Andy Rubin's Android company in August 2005, and now it is nearly a year since they started developing their own mobile operating systems.

It was not certain what Android would look like at the time, but at the time it was defined as an Open-source mobile operating system without a unified UI (user interface) that could be created by other companies themselves. We want Android to be generic for mobile phone companies like Motorola, Nokia and Samsung that can add their own designs and apps to it. Both Android and the iphone are in the early stages. Schmidt formally joined Apple's board of directors in August.

Apple launched the iphone in June 2007, and it was almost perfect. Its design is impeccable, it is great for the optimization of Internet connection. Later that year, the Android team unveiled the Android Veil with a video posted on YouTube. Mr. Jobs watched the video carefully, thinking it described the user experience as much as the iphone and iphone's underlying operating system, iOS. Mr Schmidt eventually left Apple's board in August 2009, and the legal conflict between the two companies continued to this day.

The most important aspect of the myth created by Android and iOS is that they are innovative in two different directions.

As for android,google that we can get better economic benefits from this open platform, we also have the ability to control the problems that arise as a result of openness. Android is out of control and the word runaway is completely positive in Google. Under the conditions of the Apache License Agreement, the source code of the software can be used by anyone for free. This "open source" model means that anyone can get the operating system and can use and change it at will.

Apple is doing the opposite. The iOS code is closed, and applications to the App Store must be officially approved by Apple. Jobs has always believed that the best experience for consumers is to give them full control. He spent a great deal of attention on the details, and on what he and his company did to create the best products. It was evident from his exhibition that every display was a result of his highly orchestrated and produced, as if on a Broadway show.

The way Apple's control model works is not just a person's power, but also a big part of how he framed the company. At Apple, like Google, executives are people with a technical background. Your creative executive teams are great, smart people, and then the world's smartest, more creative people in charge, and in most cases you can make the right decisions. And when you're right most of the time, this highly controlled model can have more amazing innovations.
