Sina Science and technology news Beijing time, August 22 night, Google chairman Eric Schmidt will be in Friday at the Edinburgh International Television Festival, "MacTaggart" (MacTaggart) speech, this will be the first time by the non-television broadcast industry in the keynote speech. Schmidt will send a positive signal: "Google needs you." The MacTaggart speech was named for the famous program maker and director James Mctaget (James MacTaggart), who died in 1974, and was influential in television broadcasting and production. The Edinburgh International Television Festival was founded in 1976 and held on bank day of the year August. Mr. Schmidt will tell delegates that Google wants to help the radio and television industry achieve a better future. This is in stark contrast to Google's uncompromising stance in the past, when it has been strongly resistant to accusations of infringement by radio and film studios. Of course, it is not realistic for Mr Schmidt to say a few flattering words at such a grand event, but people familiar with the matter said Schmidt was sincere. Good content will stimulate search, and search pushes advertising. The more exciting the Web content, the more profitable Google is. Schmidt's idea is to make Google and the television industry partners. Mr Schmidt's move is aimed at easing concerns among television industry executives that Google will influence the television industry in ways that affect other industries. The internet already poses a threat to the television industry. But unlike movie studios, record companies and newspaper groups, commercial television has won viewers with its technological advantages and new platforms. And there are already people in the industry who are aware of their strengths. "Google's search business is largely driven by high-quality content that Google has not paid for, and content owners are aware of the power they have," says one industry executive. Schmidt may say something nice and think we'll follow. In fact, we'll say to him, put your hand in your pocket. "One of the radical proposals is to ask Google to pay a one-time monopoly tax, because Google has a market share of 85% in the UK, which can be used to finance television production." (Li Ming)
