Seagate subsidiary I365 and Microsoft have launched a Windows environment-oriented device and cloud-based services that allow users to replicate data locally and from the site.
The backup software provided by Seagate will be tightly integrated with Windows Storage server running on the Microsoft Data Homeowner Manager (EDPM) device. EDPM data from the application server is backed up, which can then be replicated to disk arrays, tape libraries, and i365 cloud repositories.
According to Terry Cunningham, general manager of i365, any data copied to the i365 cloud is processed first through data de-duplication to maximize WAN bandwidth.
EDPM will be available in June this year and users can now order via i365 and Microsoft channel partners.
Cunningham said the new near-line storage device/cloud storage device combination is mainly for SME users. He says more and more companies are starting to use Microsoft Data Homeowner Manager as a near-line device for Windows Backup and recovery. But many of these companies also opt for operating systems and other applications outside of windows, and they want a way to extend Microsoft DPM to protect data in Windows and non-Windows environments.
"This is why this integrated solution is a killer application for the midrange market," says Cunningham. The user is Microsoft-led, but there are other options for--linux, Unix, Oracle databases, Novell NetWare or IBM i-series devices. ”
I365 's new EDPM products are tightly integrated with Microsoft products to simplify use, as well as easily backing up Oracle or SQL Server as you would for Exchange and SharePoint.
"It has a central display interface, which is its ' secret weapon '," says Cunningham. From an administrator's point of view, you can see all the products through an interface. ”
EDPM starts work after creating an initial full backup of the EDPM device, and then the agent on the application server runs an incremental backup of the device at timed intervals. Users can also purchase a service from i365 or Microsoft that allows them to replicate backup data over the WAN to i365 cloud storage.
The capacity of the EDPM device is divided into 2TB, 6TB, and 10TB centralized configurations, with RAID 5 elasticity and a 24x7f service maintenance protocol.
EDPM's entry-level configuration (excluding i365 cloud storage services) is $9995, and the 6TB and 10TB versions are priced at about 20000 and 30000 dollars.
Among them, the cloud storage Replication Service is optional and is charged per gigabyte each month.
