Service providers increasingly favor cloud computing and big data

At the Interop conference, NaviSite launched Navicloud intelligent Storage, a Emcatmos cloud based storage product that enables enterprise customers to store, back up, and share files. NaviSite has traditionally provided hosted application services and has expanded its business to collaboration tools and virtual desktops in recent years. NaviSite Company Cloud product experience Chris Patterson says object storage is the company's next logical progression.

"It's an extension of what we've been doing," Patterson said. "We've got a nice cloud service, but we've always wanted to add a package to our cloud services." "The company will be priced at $0.2 per gigabyte, and the service will start in June this year," he said.

Richard Villars, an analyst at IDC Research, says NaviSite is trying to enrich its cloud products to provide more complete service packs for customers. For future trends, he says, the next goal for infrastructure companies should be to continuously improve the analytical capabilities of the data stored in the cloud. "We think that if you want to be a very high-end cloud service provider, Big Data services will be a key factor because large data services will be the dominant service in the next few years," he says. "The first step is to provide object storage services." We all know that anyone who wants to do data analysis in the cloud needs object storage, and you have to give people a place to mark which data needs to be analyzed. ”

NaviSite did not say it would plan to enter the big data analysis area, but Patterson said the company would continue to improve its services in the next few months.

Villars says large data analysis in cloud computing will become increasingly popular from a corporate and user perspective. Many large data analysis jobs require a lot of computing resources in a very short time, Villars says: "One of the best use cases is not continuous analysis, but shortening the time for work, from four days to four hours." ”

The more companies put their data into the public cloud, the more interested they will be in the analysis of the data. At the same time, service providers will have the opportunity to use analysis tools to provide such services, such as Hadoop.

Some progress has been made in this regard. Earlier this month, for example, Google released its bigquery, a large data analysis tool based on cloud computing. Amazon has also launched its elastic Map Reduce, a cloud-based Hadoop product. "We're not saying that if you don't go into this, it's a real market trend," says Villars. ”
