Beijing time September 22 afternoon news, according to foreign media reports, Japan Sharp Company announced in Wednesday, will spend 305 million of dollars to buy U.S. solar developers recurrent energy, so as to enter the field of solar power plants. Sharp, the world's third-largest producer of solar cells, has worked with Italian Enel to develop solar power plants in the Mediterranean and has a factory in Thailand. Recurrent energy is the first company in Sharp solar business to acquire relevant industry experience in solar power plants. The acquisition of recurrent will help sharp expand its business to the PV field, from developing, producing solar cells and modules to developing and promoting solar power plants. Recurrent energy, a private enterprise with controlling shareholders for Hudson Clean, has focused on small-scale projects with a capacity of less than 20 MW, with more than 20,000 megawatts of total engineering plans in the US, Canada and Europe. Sharp's rivals include U.S. solar panel maker First Solar and Suntech power in Wuxi, China, which have expanded their operations to power plant project development to compensate for the loss of solar panel price declines. Power plant-related project development often leads to continuous product demand for these manufacturers. There are far fewer acquisitions in the solar industry than in other areas of technology. As the industry faces a fall in the price of solar panels and uncertainty about government subsidies, the enthusiasm for the once-hot industry has fallen far behind. (slides)
