Phoenix Technology News Beijing Time September 30, according to Reuters, Siemens said in Sunday, as part of the € 6 billion (about 8.1 billion) cost-cutting plan, Siemens plans to lay off 15,000 next year, of which one-third of the layoffs will come from Germany. Two months ago, the resignation of Siemens CEO Peter Loescher, Löscher at the end of last year, drafted the company's cost-cutting plan (Löscher). As Europe's largest engineering company, Siemens Products dabble in a number of areas, from hearing aids to gas turbines, and Siemens is keen to narrow the gap with competitors in the United States, such as General Electric in the US and ABB in Switzerland. A Siemens spokeswoman said Siemens had reached an agreement with the Union over about half of the layoffs and the other half would follow suit. The spokesman added that Siemens's announcement of layoffs was a desire to end market speculation about the number of layoffs. But so far, Siemens has yet to implement layoffs. Siemens has previously said it does not intend to make mandatory layoffs, but relies on the natural wastage and voluntary redundancy of its staff. The spokesman also said that for the German market, there would be some 2000 industrial sector jobs and 1400 jobs in energy and infrastructure sectors being cut. Siemens is expected to end on September 30 in the current fiscal year, the total staff of about 370,000, and the same period last year. (Compile/Joshui)
