Beijing time October 28 Evening News, according to foreign media reports, the Japanese mobile operator SoftBank and NTT DoCoMo Thursday released their respective 2010 second-quarter earnings, driven by smart phone sales, two companies have reached double-digit net profit. In the second quarter of 2010, SoftBank's net profit was 57.4 billion yen (about $702.48 million), the all-time record, compared with 43.4 billion yen in the same period last year. Operating profit was 158.9 billion yen, up from 122.33 billion yen in the same period last year. Revenue was 764.2 billion yen, up from 682.9 billion yen in the same period last year. SoftBank's average revenue per user in the second quarter was 4300 yen, up from 4150 yen in the same period last year. SoftBank expects its operating profit to reach 500 billion yen in the fiscal year ending March 31, 2011. "Our mobile internet strategy, including the iphone and ipad, continues to yield steady returns," said son, CEO of SoftBank. We expect that one day most people will have two Internet connections-one for smartphones and one for tablet connections. Meanwhile, Japan's largest mobile operator, NTT DoCoMo, also released its second-quarter earnings. Operating profit of 29.1 million yen, compared with the same period last year 233.4 billion yen growth of 24.7%. Revenues were 1.049 trillion yen, down 1.1% from 1.061 trillion yen in the same period last year. NTT DoCoMo's average revenue for the second quarter was 5200 yen, down 4.1% per cent compared with 5420 yen in the same period last year. For the entire 2010 fiscal year, DoCoMo expects revenue to be 4.209 trillion yen, below the previously estimated 4.222 trillion yen. Net profit will reach 497 billion yen, operating profit will reach 840 billion yen. (Li Ming)
