In http://www.aliyun.com/zixun/aggregation/1560.html ">facebook's newly established Oregon data center, a huge, multiple-room" duplex "cooling system was used, and the new technology was spray. Facebook has released some of the latest elements of the system:

It is reported that the multi-compartment "duplex" cooling system is based on the experience and lessons of operating Oregon Prineville data Center. The change is small, but it reflects Facebook's focus on improving efficiency and reducing costs and constantly improving the design of data centers.

Facebook adjusts its air cooling system to allow it to manage humidity and heat. In the first phase of Prineville data center, Facebook used a spray system. It has a small nozzle connecting the water pipe, can spray in the air channel small mist, not only refrigeration but also increase the humidity.

In the second phase of Prineville data center, Facebook has replaced the old evaporative cooling system with an adiabatic medium made of fiberglass. Once the warm air enters the medium, it cools and cools by spraying water mist from the top of the medium.

Before that, there were many other changes to the Facebook data center. Like what:

"Clean" air

This change comes from an event. At that time from the vicinity of the data center somewhere around the fire caused by smoke smoke wind drift into the data center. Employees all smelled the smell, and almost everyone thought it was a fire in the data center. Although not later, it prompted Facebook's team to explore how to deal with and "purify" the air into the data center.

"Our analytical approach focuses on the amount of water used," said Jay Park, director of Facebook Data Center engineering. We expect the media to need more water, but that is not the case. The medium does not need more water, and even does not have to consider reverse osmosis. Any sediment will be washed out, at the bottom of the medium, as if discharged from a cooling tower. ”

Save Construction cost

In the first data center built by Prineville, Facebook is dedicated to reverse osmosis, a natural process (not mist) to separate small particles and impurities from water. Facebook's data center uses a double-layer structure, separating servers and cooling infrastructure, and allowing maximum use of floor space to meet server requirements. Facebook opted to use the top cooling management system to get the air-conditioner into the top of the engine room and use the natural cycle to trend (cold air sinks, hot air rises) without air pressure forcing the air to rise through the floor.

The air passes through the second layer of the air grille of the "attic", and by the louver to adjust the air volume and into the equipment. Air is passed through a mixing chamber, and the outdoor cold air can be mixed with the heat emitted from the server to mediate the temperature. The cold air passes through a series of air filters and evaporation media, continues to absorb moisture through another filter, and finally pushes the opening of the floor through the fan wall into the server area.
