State of the Startup is an entrepreneurial event that has been held monthly in New York. And this event every month to invite celebrities in the business circle to share such as industry information, trends and entrepreneurial experience. And at one event, Matias Corea, co-founder and chief designer at Behance, a startup, talked about the often-wrong design mistakes made by start-ups, and the topic raised heated discussions over the stage. So now, we put Corea's main point of view for everyone.
Never allow product designers to code
There are many companies in the early days of the venture that would save on the province, so the code was also assigned to the work of product designers. Even some entrepreneurs think: product designers must have a certain understanding of the code in order to be able to better design the product. Therefore, we are not as good as the work of coding code to the designer. In addition, coding allows product designers to be safer at design time, as this eliminates the need for programmers and designers to meet and interact, allowing designers to instantly see their designs.
In this regard, Corea disagrees. He believes that if your start-up team can accommodate four or more members, you'd better give the product design and program implementation to different people. Although the product designer must understand the code, this does not mean that the code should also be given to the designer. The combination of product design and code, which appears to have saved labor costs, was in fact a waste of resources, as it left two things at a loss.
Physically speaking, code and design rely on different areas of our human brain; on the knowledge base, we rely on different knowledge frameworks. Often, switching between minds breaks our focus and consumes a lot of time and money. At the same time, this interruption will also reduce the breadth of the macroscopies we have when designing our products, and degrade the quality of our code as it progresses. This is a very terrible thing. Therefore, entrepreneurs, the province of the province, but like these provinces should not be absolute province.
Framework design to distinguish primary and secondary information
Corea highlighted the need to differentiate primary and secondary information during the framework design process. During the design process, our website or application consists of multiple pages that interact with each other. At the same time, within the page, we have different sections, there is interaction between the sections. To correctly handle the page and the page, the interaction between the plate and the plate, we rely on accurate description of these pages and plates, neither to make their information redundant, interfere with our design process; can not simply use a blank box To replace these pages and plates, because it will lose a lot of interactive details.
The typesetting technology hit a solid
The traditional media typesetting mechanics generally accepted a professional typesetting training, some of the basic principles of typography are well aware. And many of our Internet product designers just lack this. They just feel or test results through practice, which kind of arrangement which feel good. Although this approach can also be good results, but it took a lot of test time, and may cause a lot of repetitive work.
Do not worry job is empty
In addition to talking about product design topics, Corea also talked about team building. Corea emphasizes that for an early start-up team to maintain a harmonious and cohesive team atmosphere is very important, do not let a rat feces rotten pot of soup. If someone in the team is affecting team harmony, be sure to leave him as soon as possible, and do not worry about the fact that no one can do his job when he is gone. Empty is empty, do not grind grumble, quickly find someone again.
The last point is a bit off topic, but this is where early startup teams need to be. Because of the wide range of design topics themselves, Corea's proposals, while pertinent, are certainly not comprehensive. Therefore, I hope you have practical experience in the product designer to leave your valuable experience in the comment column for your reference.
