Metaphone

Syntax: string metaphone (String str)

Description:

Calculates the Metaphone key for Str.

This function is similar to SOUNDEX (), Metaphone creates the same key to pronounce words that are similar in pronunciation. It is more accurate than soundex (), just as it knows the rules of English pronunciation, the key produced by Metaphone does not have a fixed length.

Metaphone is developed by Lawrence Philips<lphilips@verity.com>, described in ["practical Algorithms for programmers", Binstock & Rex, Addison Wesley, 1995].

Note: This function is a new function in PHP4.0
