Studying the power of cloud computing Chinese won the Canadian National Research Award

Xinhua Beijing, March 16, according to the Canadian World Daily Report, including a Chinese four University of Toronto researchers, 13th won the Canadian National Research Awards (Canada study Chair).

The National Research awards provide the federal government with the highest honors and financial support for scientific research, which amounts to a total of 300 million dollars a year.

Joyce Poon, an award-winning electronics and Computer Engineering department, focuses on power in computer cloud computing. She says humans have used fiber optics to communicate at a distance, and are now discovering substances that are more powerful, faster, and consume less energy. Joyce Poon is leading a team to study a substance that is hundreds of times times the size of a hair, he says.

After obtaining a bachelor's degree in engineering, Joyce Poon a master's and Ph. D. in engineering from Caltech, and then returned to work in research.

The other three scientists who won the research awards are constatin Christopoulos of the Department of Municipal Engineering, Andreas Laupacis of medical School, Milica Padisic of the Department of Chemical Engineering and applied Chemistry.

In addition, more than 13 scientists have won the National Research Awards, including the Chinese expert at the Bioengineering Institute, Warren Chan.
