Philip Elmer-dewitt recently issued a report that Appcelerator's survey of Third-party mobile application developers in Wednesday (the second quarter mobile app developer survey) is well worth studying. The titanium platform developed by Appcelerator is a cross-platform development tool based on WEB technology that is popular and "seems to have escaped the clutches of Steve Jobs." The text is compiled as follows:

Of the more than 51000 customers, 2,733 were involved in the survey conducted last week, and from the results we could learn more about how mobile app developers view the current six main platforms: Apple IOS (IPhone and IPad), Google Android (phone and tablet) , palm/hp WebOS, Microsoft Windows Phone 7, Nokia Symbian/meego and RIM BlackBerry.

The key conclusions, as the survey notes, are "Apple and Google are playing chess while everyone else is catching up." The popularity of tablet programs in two leading groups has warmed up and the attractiveness of other platforms has been flat or down, indicating that competition between Apple and Google is spreading from mobile phones to broader, longer-term platforms.

According to the statement in the report, the main points of conclusion are:

The launch of Apple's IPad has sparked a developer's interest in tablet applications. 84% of the developers surveyed were interested in the IPad after the IPhone. As a new field of Android tablet, the 62% respondents favored, ranked fourth, more than all except Android and IOS platform. There are even developers who think that HP's possible WebOS-based tablet is the biggest opportunity for Palm.

Developers believe that Google has a long-term advantage in the platform development potential. Developers are bullish on Apple's app Store, consumer apps and business process markets, equipment and short-term prospects. But Android compatibility, platform openness, and long-term prospects are considered the highest.

IOS and Android have higher developer interest as the first group, while the second group loses territory, with BlackBerry, Windows Phone 7, WebOS, Symbian, Meego and Kindle platforms all lower than the leading group by more than 30%.

"Mobile platform requirements for large enterprises": Large organizations show a high level of interest in mobile platforms with small businesses, IOS, Android, BlackBerry and Windows Phone 7 platforms with more than 1000 employees interested in more than 80% of the interest from smaller companies.

Developers view the Cross-platform porting of mobile applications as the most painful. When developers make difficulty ratings for the eight phases of the development cycle, Cross-platform porting is viewed by nearly one-third of developers as a top priority today.

In the new features of the IPhone 4, multitasking has been the most watched. Appcelerator developers see this as a decisive feature, both for utilities, productivity programs, and business processes.

The problem is the Achilles heel of Android, which has about 60 different devices on the market, and "Cross-platform porting" has become the biggest problem in development.

60% of large companies (more than 1000 employees) remain focused on developing applications for the BlackBerry. While RIM can be relieved, it cannot be overlooked that big companies are more focused on Apple and Google's actions.

Finally, while various metrics are keen to focus on the IPhone 4 front-facing camera, FaceTime network Video call capabilities, and so on, developers say multitasking is their focus.
