Abstract: The new Professional Graphics conference SIGGRAPH 2011 on schedule, Nvidia also took the opportunity to show us two new graphics technology. "In Nvidia's view, GPU acceleration computing has become mainstream, so the full introduction of Tesla is actually ripe." The new Professional Graphics conference SIGGRAPH 2011 on schedule, Nvidia also took the opportunity to show us two new graphics technology.
First look at "Project Maximus" (Maximizing the Project). Under this project, NVIDIA will no longer be selling customers more high-end Quadro professional graphics, but rather recommend "lightweight Quadro GPU graphics plus the greatest possible combination of Tesla accelerated computing cards" to maximize computing performance on the desktop.
Nvidia does not specifically explain how this asymmetric multi-GPU system works. From the demo slides, Maximus technology is on the Quadro/tesla hardware, under the application, seems to be integrated in the driver, responsible for Quadro graphics tasks, Tesla computing tasks in real time allocation, to achieve the hardware resources and application tasks best match.
Nvidia said the main goal of the program is to make the full spread of multiple GPU technology, which in the past is not easy to install, debug and so on, the future may have almost unlimited scalability, users can be based on their actual needs to match different GPU combinations.
As for why to use Tesla, it is easy to assume that Nvidia is the opportunity to sell more products, and the official explanation is: "For those applications with low graphics requirements and heavy computational tasks, users can consider selecting entry-level or midrange Quadro graphics for graphical functions, such as Quadro 600 or Quadro 2000. For a particular application, adding a Tesla coprocessor provides better performance than upgrading high-end Quadro graphics. ”
In Nvidia's view, GPU acceleration computing has become the mainstream, so the full introduction of the Tesla is actually mature.
Then look at "virtual Graphics", simply put Quadro professional graphics into the cloud, so you can access high-performance graphics on any device, especially smartphones and tablets based on Nvidia Tegra processors, and of course x86 devices.
One of the core of the technology is the so-called "Monterey", which boasts the ability to provide remote graphics in a local form. At the same time, there are virtualization technology Citrix XenServer, which enables high-performance Quadro graphics in virtual machines.
Nvidia's new technology has been supported by Adobe and Autodesk in Software, and Dell has prepared a Z800 workstation with three GPU on the hardware side, which will be publicly displayed at this conference. Tomorrow we should be able to see the true colors of these two new technologies.
