The debate over driverless cars continued on September 16, with strong support from both sides, but it did not prevent big carmakers from moving towards unmanned targets.

Ilon Masc, Elon Musk, chief executive of Tesla Motor, said in an interview with the Japanese economic news that the company is likely to launch a partially self-driving car within three years and will soon make further improvements. "The full automatic navigation function is likely to be available in five or six years," he predicts. ”

But since Tesla is only a smaller company relative to other rivals, it is likely that the company will need to use the power of other carmakers to do the job. Musk added: "The overall system and software will be designed by Tesla, but we will certainly use sensors and components from many companies." ”

Toyota is likely to offer some technology to Tesla because the two companies have already established business relations and Toyota's Lexus brand has recently tried to launch unmanned vehicles.

For Tesla, the company will start producing a new type of electric car for the first time in three years to enter the driverless car market. Musk said the electric car would integrate a part of unmanned driving, at a price of about 35,000 dollars.

Market insiders speculate that, from the pricing point of view, Musk said the car may be the Model III in July this year, and pointed out that the semi-automatic driving function may be Model III and fuel-powered vehicles distinguish between the important characteristics. Tesla will release Model III models in 2016 and officially start selling the car a year later, with a charging range of 200 miles (about 322-kilometer).

Model III will be the main competitor of the BMW 3-series car, which will also be the first vehicle to carry the batteries produced by Tesla's Super factory. Tesla plans to build the plant in Reno, Nevada, Reno, saying the plant will be the main production base for Model III batteries.
