In the past, when the concept of cloud computing had not come out, the how to build its own data center, service providers need to rely on the strong help from the enterprise to understand. But in this cloud era, the ubiquitous application of cloud computing has made the reality quite the opposite.

In a special discussion at the interop show, Rackspace's chief technology officer, John Angues, made the point, saying that over the past seven years, people have been paying close attention to the specifics of enterprise development, And make every effort to imitate the work they are doing. But now, the situation has become a business is looking at our actions, as an example to carry out their own work, in the past, high-end "computing power" has been called the Enterprise class. But from the present point of view, we should probably rename it to cloud level.

Although still at the initial stage of development, most cloud providers believe that hybrid and hybrid cloud models are among the most appropriate choices at the moment.

Therefore, if from the service provider's point of view, today's enterprises should pay attention to which aspects of the problem?

To figure out what the cloud is capable of doing and what it cannot achieve.

Although virtualization does belong to the infrastructure of cloud computing, it is only a part of it. According to Angus, the fundamental difference between virtualization and cloud computing is the amount of work involved in applying automation and self-service, and the actual time spent cleaning up the original process. For a single server, the deployment process alone takes six weeks.

Angus further points out: "Cloud computing is not equal to staying at the console to create a virtual machine." In order to achieve the objective of providing immediate service to the customer, the enterprise must make significant adjustments to the internal existing processes and organically integrate the public and private cloud into the same platform.

At the show, executives from companies such as Rackspace, Terremark and NetScout believe that service providers can choose between infrastructure (IaaS), Software (SaaS), Platform Services (PaaS) and other applications. Today, cloud vendors are working to address the complexities of delivering next-generation storage and network services.

Second, companies will have to choose a hybrid cloud computing model.

However, before determining the deployment of a mixed cloud model, organizations should first Test in the public cloud to gain a thorough understanding of the benefits available. In the present case, the urgency of this approach is not too high, the preparation can be very sufficient: the reason is that performance and QoS tools do not reach a mature and reliable practical level, today's cloud environment, almost no critical mission applications running.

"Because it takes at least five years to reach the requirements, companies are looking forward to getting comprehensive help as quickly as possible," said Allen Rubin, a Verizon subsidiary Terremark, vice president of cloud products. However, from the point of view of the actual situation, all kinds of relevant experience is not easy to carry out rapid transplant projects. According to Rubin's suggestion, companies should continue to adhere to the principle of slow and steady improvement.

Before migrating all of your business to a common and mixed cloud platform, organizations should first test with individual projects so that you have sufficient knowledge of the benefits of flexible scaling and self service.

For the enterprise, once the preparation for building a hybrid cloud model infrastructure is in place, it is necessary to build an internal private cloud and choose from a public cloud service from Rackspace or Amazon EC2. Of course, before the actual construction in accordance with the planning blueprint, the enterprise must also deal with several practical issues from the business and technical areas of considerable challenges.

Third, enterprises (especially small and medium-sized enterprises) must find out which applications and data can be found in large public clouds and what needs to be kept in a private cloud.

The suggestion was made by Rubin. For example, if the application is input/output-intensive, the public cloud may be a more appropriate choice. In this case, the only way to be able to confirm is the actual field test.

According to the recommendations of the vendor, the enterprise should run a variety of applications at the time of the test, and provide an in-depth and comprehensive analysis of the actual performance and end-user experience that they demonstrate.

Next, the enterprise must make a decision on how to deal with other related services around.

Security issues are typical of such services, and how to effectively connect private cloud to public cloud is one of the key issues that need to be addressed. Rubin further added that businesses should not treat "the cloud as an isolated transaction distinction." Here, the right thing to do is to make an in-depth analysis of how security and professional services can be integrated into the cloud.

In addition, "companies need to conduct specialized testing for other aspects of the situation to ensure that interoperability between the two becomes as convenient and reliable as possible".

Enterprises must also choose the most suitable for their own situation platform and development tools.

Executives from service providers point out that the core criteria of the issue should be whether they meet the requirements of the enterprise. To ensure that applications run simultaneously in both public and private clouds, organizations need to ensure that new tools are developed in a timely fashion. "In a mixed cloud model, portability is a concern for businesses".

The main reason for this concern is that companies want internal applications to continue to run on the "public Cloud", which seems like a very dangerous situation ... But if the business process can be easily adjusted, people's nervousness will naturally disappear.

Now, the real benefits of cloud computing-flexible scalability and hyper-capacity-can be reflected in financial data. All work, including virtual machine configuration and hypervisor upgrades, will be used throughout the application lifecycle--service providers no longer need to be specific to a single server.

Angus, from Rackspace, points out that cloud vendors are designing multi-tenant servers. In this way, the same network IP address can be safely applied to different tasks, even if repeated use will not cause problems.

Enterprises must understand how to derive the maximum benefit from the automation and service-opening capabilities of cloud providers.

In this way, they do not have to waste a lot of money to start from scratch to build their own cloud services, but can directly choose the cloud provider to provide more and more commercialization of higher quality services.

Of course, there are differences between cloud vendors, and the key to the difference is the type of business process that is used. Over time, the core infrastructure, software, platforms, storage, and network services will all be commercialized. Rubin further noted that companies should require suppliers to provide official documents that some industry observers call "operating service agreements (OSA)". As a successor to the standard SLA, it can be used to ensure that the performance metrics of the application meet both parties ' agreed standards.

Vii. Enterprises need to establish their own effective planning for managing private cloud and connecting mixed cloud issues.

At present, there are many kinds of tools that can be used to solve the problem. However, because the traditional enterprise system management software vendors are still working hard to solve the problems involved, so the actual processing of specific problems now seem to belong to the premature situation.

However, it is still important to ensure that the enterprise is planning the time--if possible--that the common console can involve mixed cloud projects. According to Steve Chalita, marketing vice president of Cloud management company NetScout, it should be as important as end-to-end management.

Enterprises should require cloud service providers to show sufficient transparency and openness.

Rubin, from Rackspace, points out that the data and applications are split between the data center and the cloud provider, making the business feel very worried. Therefore, in order to dispel the doubts of the enterprise, cloud providers should choose to invite them to understand how the cloud computing data center actually works.

"With time, cloud service providers will feel that" their own cloud "should be a super secret and want to remain secretive forever. It's kind of like black art. No one can know how these data centers work.

But OpenStack, the construction and defender of the open source platform for public and private cloud, says the "mystery" will only bring more doubt and even fear to clients. "Our company will never take that approach," he said. We believe that software needs to be open, and that data center design should be open. ”

Nine, the enterprise is very difficult to choose the suitable support platform.

The root cause of this situation is that the relevant APIs and standards are still in the most primitive stages of development. The current options include OpenStack and Cloudstack, Amazon and other vendors. According to the cloud service provider's point of view: Only in the already saturated market, whether the API can survive will become a matter of concern, and the current development of the industry is extremely large enough to meet all the needs of all manufacturers.

For companies, this means there is no need for speculation at the moment. The right choice is to continue experimenting with mixed patterns of public and private clouds and to focus on the evolution of the API. As competition intensifies, the API will become more sophisticated, and compatibility, reliability, and latency issues can be resolved satisfactorily. More and more businesses can be reassured that deployment of critical tasks is applied to the cloud.

Although the mixed cloud may be a bit exaggerated, it does not disappear as a concept.

Companies need to figure out how to establish effective associations between multiple cloud vendors, traditional data centers, and virtualized pools located in different locations, Rubin said. The best news, according to the cloud service provider, is that companies will not have to completely override their original applications to fully overhaul them, and that they can be deployed directly into the current cloud after minor tweaks rather than a complete rewrite of the code.
