A group claiming to be the Cloud security Alliance was announced in Tuesday, and ebay and ING, the world's largest financial services group, were founding members of the group. The alliance is poised to make its debut at the upcoming RSA Data Security Presentation Conference. The Cloud Security Alliance was established to provide the best security solution in a cloud computing environment. Dave Cullinane, the ebay Chief information Security Officer (CISOs), said in a statement that the on-demand cloud computing model was making a new requirement for security. "The nature of commercial use of information technology is being changed by the demand cloud model," he said. At this early stage, information security leaders are helping to ensure the rapid application of cloud computing based on best information security solutions without impacting the business. "Companies need a pragmatic proposal to help them qualify and deal with cloud providers in a way that is in line with the risk of sustainable organization," said Alan Boehme, founder of the Cloud Security Alliance and Vice president of IT strategy and architecture for ING Group. "A coalition of users and vendors (PGP, Qualys and Zscaler) wants to find out what may be going on in today's cloud computing environment," said Chris Hoff, a technology advisor to the Cloud Security alliance. "These companies are trying to link cloud computing to their business, regardless of size," Hoff said. Clouds mean a lot of things to many people. "The alliance is trying to put forward a recognized bottom line for cloud computing security, rather than introducing specific standards." The alliance may offer solutions to cloud computing security. According to information on the Cloud Security Alliance website, they will examine 15 major areas of cloud security. These include dominance and enterprise risk, information and whole-process management, compliance and auditing, ediscovery Enterprise content management platform, encryption and key management, application security, identity and access management, and incident response. In addition, in order to support the collaboration of cloud computing capacity, a group of manufacturers in Monday also signed a open cloud computing declaration (open Cloud Manifesto). The document is said to have been drafted by a group of IBM, Sun Microsystems, VMware and other well-known manufacturers. The file will address issues such as perimeter security, consolidation, collaboration, portability, dominance/management, and measurement/monitoring that arise in the cloud computing environment. However, this document has at least caused some controversy at the moment. "The question stems from how the document was negotiated," Hoff explained. "Some people believe that this document is too much of an IBM brand, but not a full public solicitation of ideas." Others criticized the document for not getting support from cloud computing giants such as Google. In this regard, Hoff said the debate on the paper will continue at the Cloud Computing Fair (Cloud Computing Expo), held in New York this week.
