Assuming they eventually move to Google's cloud facility, Amazon's EC2 platform will be significantly less revenue.
However, the competition has become more intense over the past week, focusing not only on the price of computing and storage. Cloud providers must also demonstrate their ability to deal with the special needs of the Internet of things. Amazon's EC2 platform has a streaming service called Kinesis, which is no doubt designed for the internet of things. Google's new cloud data streaming service is also designed to handle the internet of things because it penetrates into the network and then analyzes it more deeply.
In addition, Microsoft, one of the three big cloud service providers, may actually have the most compelling Internet services. It offers a business called Azure Intelligent system Services, which it says not only allows users to collect, store, and process device data, but it also connects devices and services and even manages them.
It now looks like Amazon and Google will launch similar services. Improvements in simplicity and latency can cause all storage and management to be on the same platform, using the same tools, even in the same data center. Like many developing technologies, there may be good support for a single type of device or sensor, but IoT companies may start asking for more support as they begin to measure more data with new devices and sensors.
