In a report this March, the New York Times said Facebook had contacted Robert Gibbs, the former press secretary of Barack Obama, the US president, in the hope that the latter would be the head of external communications for Facebook. During the 2008 U.S. presidential election, Gibbs was one of the main members of the Obama campaign. After Obama's victory, Gibbs became the White House press secretary. Gibbs resigned from the White House this February.
